I love to create fibre art, craft and sculpture with materials that have been recycled both in our natural and man made environments. Some of the themes guiding this work are:
- acknowledgement and revival of traditional craft practises
- natural resources management
- sustainable art practices
- low cost / low impact art materials
- creative solutions / waste management
- innovation and design
Weaving within the natural world allows me to reconnect to the earth, the seasons, the animals to time and space where I can feel empowered knowing that I have the skills in my hands to create something useful, practical, aesthetic, creative and therapeutic. My current practice includes the facilitation of monthly WEAVING CIRCLES, workshops with community groups, schools or privately. I find the work most fluid and simple when practiced in a natural setting, usually seated on a mat, on the earth, in the shade of a tree. Weaving with natural fibres teaches me about nature’s laws of impermanence, simplicity, culture, maintenance, cycles, balance, seasons, design, chaos & flexibility. Some of the fibre preparation includes common garden waste and a variety of local plants. These fibres are used to create items of beauty and utility including baskets, accessories and wearable art.
Plant –a -Basket
Come along and join this WEAVING CIRCLE and learn to craft your very own Plant-a-Basket. Together we will weave our local native Bangalow Palm and Lomandra into a beautiful basket for plants to grow in and for you to take home.
