Youngtree

Emerging from the Australian roots scene, Youngtree are pushing the boundaries with their original ‘progressive reggae’ sound. Weaving strands of jazz, psychedelic rock, trip hop and dub into classic roots reggae the band from the hills of Maleny deliver a strong conscious message.

Youngtree’s music is a dynamic fusion, often soulful and unexpected. Ambient melodies flow over twisted bass-lines, one-drop rhythms phase into experimental tangents, catchy horn lines cut through hypnotic delays, poetic positivity is laced with dark shades of rebellion. The songs are defined by passionate lyrics that speak of unity and conflict, harmony and chaos, global struggles and personal experiences.

The 6-piece collective come from diverse musical background’s – Youngtree’s front man, from Cape Town, South Africa, is reggae poet Wayne Eden, on guitar is roots-man Paddy K, on bass is the funkadelic Jake Hazard, on drums – afro-beat wizard Wayne Reid, on keys – jazz-man Greg Clark, on trumpet and percussion – the humble Rasta Azz Jensen.

In 2011 Youngtree were plucked from virtual obscurity to support Californian reggae heavyweights Groundation and they have since shared the stage with bands like Dubmarine, Darky Roots and Kingfisha. Their first festival season saw the band playing at Byron Reggaefest, Caloundra Music festival, Island Vibe Festival and Earth Frequency Festival. Youngtree’s journey continues as they look forward to releasing their first EP in the spring of 2013.
